software / lume
lume
real-time audio metering and visualisation for mixing, mastering and monitoring. seven meters in one strip, and it goes wherever you need it.
early access, windows only, and you may find occasional bugs. auto-updates work, so a copy bought now updates itself as the rest lands!
01 / the meters
seven meters, one strip
every meter is a module with its own settings. drag a header to reorder the strip, drag a divider to resize it.
spectrum
which frequencies are in the signal, and how loud each one is.
oscilloscope
the wave itself. lock it to the pitch of the note and its cycle stands still.
spectrogram
the spectrum over time, as a heat map.
loudness
lufs and true peak, measured to itu-r bs.1770-4.
waveform
the signal as it plays, drawn as a moving wave.
tuner
the note being played, and how far off it is.
stereometer
how wide the mix is and which way it leans, by eye or by number.
behind the strip, a visualiser moves with the music, in one of two styles: aurora or circuit. it can be switched off.
02 / where it lives
on top of everything else
the full window is one way to use lume. the others keep your meters on screen while you work in something else.
docked toolbar
dock lume to the top or bottom of a screen and windows treats it like the taskbar: maximised windows stop where it starts. or let it sit over them, with a transparent background.
floating toolbar
the same bar, undocked: a small always-on-top strip you place anywhere. it remembers where you left it.
detached strips
a strip is a small window of meters that floats over your other apps, on a second monitor or over a daw. save the ones you use, and switch whole sets in one click.
boards
a bigger window you arrange freely: any meter anywhere, at any size, layered if you like. it snaps to a grid or to the other meters' edges, and alt places it freely.
03 / ghost
meters you can click straight through
turn a strip, or the toolbar while it floats over your work, into a ghost: the mouse goes through it to whatever is underneath, your daw included. it fades as the pointer passes, and one key turns ghost off and on again.
04 / in your daw
seven plugins and a server
seven of the meters also come as vst3 plugins, one meter each, with their settings saved in your project. the eighth, lume server, sends a track from your daw to the app.
05 / a/b referencing
hold your mix up against a reference
load a track you trust, or capture your own mix, and lume draws it over every meter in a colour of its own. the levels are matched, so you compare the sound and not the volume. the library keeps each reference's analysis, never the audio.
06 / the rest of it
everything else, briefly
sources
system audio (whatever your computer is playing), an input such as a microphone or interface, an audio file, or a track from your daw through lume server.
16 themes
12 dark, one of them cycling through rgb, 3 light, and a custom one from two colours of your own. any meter can wear a palette of its own.
setups
save the whole setup and load it in one click. two come built in: clean and detailed.
keybinds
every shortcut in one table, all of them changeable. one key brings your strips up from anywhere.
start with windows
open lume when you sign in: as you left it, as the main window, as a toolbar, or as just your strips.
first run
three questions, and lume sets itself up from the answers.
light on the cpu
native c++, drawn with direct2d, one process. it keeps in step with your display, and drops to 30 fps when nothing is playing.
runs locally
no account, no cloud, no telemetry.
one key, two machines
node-locked. out of seats, lume offers to free your other computers rather than sending you to find them.
updates itself
it checks for a new version when it opens, so early access fills in as it lands.
